''Changing Juliette's future with sign language''

In August 2014, while I was in Haiti for a week, we had the opportunity to met a lot of children with all different background...but there was one-one little girl named Juliette that we simply wanted to know more about her. My heart was sadden to hear about her condition. We heard that Juliette was deaf and could not speak. I felt so sad for her...but I realized that, even if she cannot hear nor talk, she still enjoys life with her friends around.

My Mom's words...
Ok, now, I really have to say this is one of the most memorable moment of our trip... I was so anxious to know if the little deaf girl(her name is Juliette) would get what we wanted to teach her... She was very intimidated at first, but SHE DID get it!!! I am soooo happy   Her parents was suppose to be there, but they didn`t show up. (the mom just delivered a baby 2 days ago). Her little friends where there, so we decided we would teach them also.
She was very shy at first because the attention was all on her, but we switched the attention to all of the kiddos and little by little she started to participate like the rest of the kids. We showed them the signs for a book, water, house, door, window, car, tree, shoes, skirt... We just wanted her to get it. We draw some pictures and did the signs. Pointed at some objects and did the signs. And suddenly, she started to do it... and all of her little friends also. They all learned very quick. We told her friends that they need ed to practice with her everyday, and they were all very happy with it. We had all the kiddos practice the signs of, "My name is..." with her. Another thing, we told Juliette's friends to look at her in the eyes and articulate well. They all practice and it was so cute!!!
We were going for a walk to some friends house after and they all followed us. Everything we pointed, she did the sign for it. That is so amazing. She is very smart. I know we didn`t have a lot of time and we can`t teach her much this time, but now that she gets it, it will be easier for us to continue what we have started the next time.

The sign language class, in the great outdoor:-)
Juliette is the little girl with the white shirt on.

Please pray for this little girl, Juliette, that one day she could be able to communicate well with her friends, by sign language. I am so far from the person I wish I would be, but it does means so much to me when someone's future can be ameliorated, just by teaching them things that I know, but that I only take for granted. Thanks for your prayers guys!

Have a nice day!
Keila

What an inspirational post. It's true that we shouldn't take what we have for granted. Thank you, and God bless you Keila.

I'll pray for Juliette. Life for people for disabilities is hard, and I just hope for the best for them. :)

Sorry, for not writting in english but it's a little to hard for me...
Best wishes from France.
God bless you
Fanet
